Progress Week 4

This week I visited the client to get their requirements for the system and to see how they operate.

From the technology I analysed they were quite keen on the digital pen, however the costs for that are very high. This is something that I will continue to explore.

Alongside the pen analysis I have committed to making a prototype application using Access. I have started to design the database structure using the principles learnt from my database units.

Other than that this week I have documented the requirements and have started researching the different project methodologies that I could follow.

Week 2 - Progress

Having put together my background research on the client and objectives it is now clear I will need to research around the usability of the system and look at what makes an effective application. I have created a document with useful references that I will use to back up my findings.

Today I have spent my time looking into the possibilities of developing an application. I installed Joomla and had a look into the functionality that it offers. I need to compare this against other content management systems to see which would be most suited, if that is the chosen technology.

Keeping my options open I also downloaded a program to develop applications for Android phones. Currently I am trying to develop a simple solution whereby a user can enter data into a form on their phone and click a button to send the information.

I am still getting to grips with both of these technologies but hope to come to a conclusion by the end of the week.

Introduction

I started work on my project last week and had a quick meeting with my supervisor, Keith Phalp, to get feedback on my project proposal. We spoke briefly about the aims of the project and where I could see it going.

My first task which I worked on last week was to analysis possible technologies I could use to solve the problem. This included Content Management Systems, Writing tablets, Digital pen and several others. This work is still ongoing, however I have sent the initial work to my client to get their opinions.

Other than that research I started to look for research papers and areas that I would focus on during my project.

My aim for today is to get a good introduction in place for my project which will include a detailed problem description alongside some objectives. I will continue looking at areas to research so that I have good direction. Once this is done I will reassess my progress to decide what else needs to be completed this week.
